2018-2019 2018-2019 Harmony-wide science fair competition (6th grade and up who are doing PBL Level II or Level III projects) This year’s competition is scheduled for April 26-27. See attached flyer for details. This is an invitation only science fair. Here is the process: - Students will register first and then submit their projects (abstract,research plan, and research paper or slide deck) to H-SEF. - H-SEF scientific review committee will review submitted projects for pre-elimination and qualification. - Students who pass the online pre-elimination will be invited to present their projects in Houston during H-SEF on April 27, 2019. H-SEF covers food and lodging expenses of participating students and chaperones. Travel expenses to/from Houston must be covered by the campus or accompanying parents, if applicable. PS: Online registration is not yet activated. We will send further instructions regarding registration and project submission as soon as H-SEF project portal is up and running very soon.
Spring 2019 Testing Second testing session will take place from February 11th until February 15th. This testing session applies to HSA returning students only. The results will be mailed the first week of March. For more information contact our GATE Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Summer Enrichment Scholarships Awarded to identified gifted students grades K- 12, who are currently participating in a gifted program and who want to enrich their learning experience during the summer months. The maximum summer scholarship award is $400. Students may use these scholarships to attend programs with academic, fine art, or performing arts focus. Davidson Fellows Scholarship The Davidson Institute for Talent Development offers high-achieving young people across the country the opportunity to be named a 2019 Davidson Fellow, an honor accompanied by a$50,000, $25,000 or $10,000 scholarship in recognition of a significant piece of work in Science, Technology, Engineering,Mathematics, Music, Literature, Philosophy or Outside the Box.Applicants must submit an original piece of work that is recognized as significant by experts in the field and that has the potential to make a positive contribution to society. 2018 Student Essay Contest Former first lady Barbara Bush once said, "Reading opens the world to me and keeps me open to the world." To enter, students are asked to write a story about a book that has helped open the world to them - perhaps helping them experience a new place, explore a different way of life, or discover a new interest.
GATE Club GATE club starts on September 11th, from 7:20 am until 8:05 am. It will take place every Tuesday morning in our GATE classroom. GATE club is an opportunity (extra time) for our GATE students to work on their projects, related to this class or any other.
Parents' Night Parents' Night will take place on Thursday, September 6th, from 5 until 6 pm at HSA-Garland. Parents, of returning students as well as newly enrolled students, will be informed of our GATE program objectives and expectations. Other items will also be discussed, specifically identification process, curriculum, schedule, evaluation and extracurricular activities. Join us at HSA-Garland!
